For my first blog post, I thought I'd share one of my favorite pictures that I've ever taken! I took this picture five years ago while I was in art school with my film SLR camera and developed it myself in the darkroom at UW. Now as much as I love shooting digitally and am not hipster enough to even consider going back to film; I will admit there is something pretty thrilling about having no idea how your photo will turn out until you're in the darkroom. This particular picture was of two children who are very special to me and I was really hoping it would turn out at least halfway decent (my hopes weren't very high because I took it in a low-lit room). All the other pictures that I took in that set looked horrible, but then I turned this one over and it literally took my breath away. I love that I was able to capture this sweet moment of this little girl who was so proud and excited to have a new (days-old) little brother and already loved him so much.
Now that I shoot digitally, the element of surprise isn't quite as profound, but I still get these little moments of "YES!!" every photo shoot. I can guarantee that you will hear me squeal or give little exclamations of joy or at least have a smile plastered on my face. Seriously, my face hurts from smiling after every photo shoot I do! I love doing what I do!!
